Everyone needs an advocate, a cheerleader to support her no matter what. Not a supporter of the issue at hand, but a permanent supporter of the person behind it–someone who says I don’t care what you’re doing or where you’re going, whether you make mistakes or get it right the first time, someone who says I believe in YOU. No matter the outcome, that person is always there, reminding you that he thinks you’re a rock star. His feeling about you is not tied to results; it’s tied to your very being.
If you have one of these people in your life, you know how much this helps your outlook, and in turn, your performance. Even when you’re at the very bottom, having someone believe in you unconditionally keeps you moving forward. When you’re at the top of your game, that person cheers louder than anyone else. Don’t take it for granted.
If you have the chance to be this person for someone else, jump in with both feet knowing there is no greater gift you can give.
My brother thinks I’m a rock star.
He’s the real rock star.
Happy birthday, Dean.
