I’ve struggled with my posts lately. I have the sense that they’ve become more esoteric than helpful–blah, blah, blah, more of the same. I need to shake things up and get interesting again.
Sometimes that means backing off for a little while to gain a new perspective. I simply can’t stop writing, so from time to time when I need a thematic break, you might just see something fun and different pop in here. Like now.
This song is one of my favorites of all time. I don’t care if it’s about a cartoon dog; the goodwill-to-men sentiment chokes me up when I’m not belting it out at the top of my lungs. Listen to it. Have fun with it. Tell me what you think. Better yet, tell me what zany favorites you hide away on your own playlists, and tell me why you love them.
C’mon, do it. Put yourself out there; I did.
(And don’t forget to crank up the sound.)
I’m not in the Christmas mood until I blow out a woofer on the Kink’s classic “Father Christmas.” The idea of Santa carrying a machine gun so I can scare the kids down the street…well, the thought has crossed my mind a few times. But then…seeing all the Snoopy ornaments around here, the animated Snoopy and Woodstock, with Snoopy playing a baby grand piano…well, gotta love that pup.
George Thorogood and BIlly Squier also rank up there…BUT…my collection of Bob RIvers and Twisted Christmas, that stuff rocks. They do a MEAN cover of Black Sabbath’s “Iron Man,
and they do a WICKED “O Little Town Of Bethlehem,” except the music is “House Of The Rising Sun.” Gotta break up the serious with some funny. That’s what I’m spinning.
Somewhere…I have the 45 rpm record for this song.
Hey guys, the “Ol” Captain” here, and as of right now I am the fan club president for this band, “The Royal Guardsmen”. We appreciate you devoting a little attention towards them, now that we’re trying to get the fan base kick started, since they’re actively playing and recording again. Obviously, they’re known for the big 3 hits they had, (Snoopy vs.Red Baron, Return of the Red Baron, and Snoopys Xmas) but they’re also good musicians and really nice guys, too. Like most bands, their best stuff isn’t whats played on the radio.
If it’s cool with you, we’d love anyone interested to come on over to facebook and “like” The Royal Guardsmen, and from there you can stay current regarding news, tour dates and we even have semi monthly giveaways, our next being their new live cd, “Beaglemania!”
I think I speak for the group when I say a great big thanks for this, have a great day, guys!
Here’s the link, http://www.facebook.com/theroyalguardsmen , hope to see you there!
Thanks for the heads-up! I’m definitely a fan and will pass it on.
